"Mommy, when are we going to Kindergarten roundup????"
My daughter is so eager to go to school it's killing her. And she asked this question daily until we finally brought her to orientation on Tuesday night. She got to meet her teacher, Mrs. Herzog (sounds like hog!) who is fantastic and really nice. We also got to see the gym, cafeteria, meet the nurse and the coolest of all she got to ride the BIG YELLOW SCHOOLBUS!
Now for those of you who have children going to school you will know about the excitement I am talking about. Yep, the bus gets them so excited it's funny to watch them talk about it. Alex is always pointing it out when she sees one screaming - "Look mommy, look! It's a schoolbus!" And she gets Aliyah all excited even though she has no concept of what a bus is or what it's for.
So as she proudly practiced walking in front of the bus and getting onto it, there was a gleam of wonder in her eye. They got to drive in it around town too and she sat with a good buddy of hers.
Little does she know what you and I know......that the schoolbus is SO. UNCOOL.
Oh ya, that's right. I remember having to ride the damn bus through to my fricken senior year when I would have preferred to drive my car (the one I paid for and owned but was forbidden by the mother to drive it in winter). I would be mortified getting off it when I was driving age. It became uncool around the age of 16 when I was able to drive. But being stuck in the boon docks forced me to ride it daily.
Oh the pain. But whatever because Alex is still young, impressionable and full of innocence. But I'm waiting for the day she hates the bus!

Daycare Update!
So there has been this huge uproar at our daycare (which is also our church) ever since they decided to close the school age room and fire half the staff. The director has been getting numerous phone calls, emails, letters and face to face conversations about how pissed off they are, the unfairness that is was never talked about to the parents and it was such a hasty decision to close mere weeks from school starting.
So they decided to do damage control and hold a parent meeting, basically to explain their actions and save face. As it turns out, there were a lot of people there and at the end the consensus would be to relook at opening the room for another year because otherwise it will stand empty until they get all of their reorginization and remodeling done.
Which is good and bad. I had already made my peace AND all of the plans for Alex with new programs, etc. But Ben is so adamant about keeping her there so that is now our new plan. And it keeps changing, which is driving me nuts! The busing is all screwed up now because she is in the KPlus program but at a different school and the busing people can't tell me if it's all right to drop her off at two different places. And then Ben wants to know if Alex can just stay in the Pre-2 room on her KPlus days instead of going to school. Which I DO NOT agree with. He just sees it as saving money for us but that is not what it's about for me.
So instead of being relieved and glad everything is done and over with and decided, it's all still up in the air!!! And now it's only (GULP) 12 days until school. For the love of God people! So I'm not done freaking out. What do we do?????

The Day Has Come
The dreaded day is here....and o.k. so it's not THAT bad. I mean, my teeth haven't fallen out, I can still get out of bed without groaning about achy joints, I'm not sucking food through a straw and most importantly I still have all of my hair.
What am I talking about? Oh ya, surprise, it's my 30th Birthday! Happy birthday to ME! I can dance and sing...all right so maybe you don't want to hear me sing. But it's going to be a wonderful day!
Even though it totally sucks to have it in the middle of the week. There is always stuff going on in the middle of the week and tonight is no exception. I have to take to the girls to Tuesday church orientation, which starts in September and then Alex has a going away to kindergarten party after that also at church.
But that isn't going to stop us from having a CAKE tonight! I plan on stopping at the DQ for one of those fantabulous ice cream cakes and we are going to love it!
We are also going out to celebrate my birthday this Friday night by going out to dinner, just Ben and myself. The girls are going to their friend Madison's house for a sleepover so we are excited for a night to ourselves, which is rare.
Anyhoo, now that I have entered the land of the "Thirtysomething's" crowd I'll be taking myself off now.

School Starts Soon!
As most of you know, our daycare decided to close the doors to our school age kids and while I was furious and saddened, I have moved on. Don't get me wrong, I am still in limbo about changing Alex's schedule so radically right when she goes to school for the first time. I don't know who is going to be more anxious or nervous about the whole thing, her or me?
We got a hold of the school district and enrolled her in the before and after school EdVenture Club. Then we enrolled her in the K+ program, which she will be attending on the days she does not have kindergarten. It's an enrichment day with similar curriculum, so I am fine with that. Except of course I'll be paying tuition for both, which really sucks. Why do things have to change????? Ug.
My poor daughter is going to be exhausted, I am already forseeing this. She doesn't talk about it and I don't think it's hit her yet until all of the change happens that first week of school. Plus she'll see some of her friends from her daycare now but the majority will be all new people, teachers, and building.
I did take her to Target to get her school supplies, her lunch bucket and shoes. Most of it Hannah Montana of course, since she is in love with that look and image. So she was excited about that!
If feels like it's coming too fast, but not fast enough. Because summer is coming to a close and we have so much yet to pack in.
